There phishing, search cache poison, and a plenty of 0 day threats, intrusion attacks, ping flood attacks etc that Microsoft Security Essentials will fail successfully (pun intended) to protect you and your device from. So I recommend you turn up to a commercial software. Today several companies have special versions of Internet Security Suites especially crafted for netbooks, which do not task the system too much. Do check the offering from Kaspersky Labs and also check AVG's offerings. And the best protection from online threats is provided by none other than our own common sense. Do install it ;-) .
