If you’re getting tired of the same blue-ish look of Windows Media Center (WMC) in Windows 7 and Vista, then we’ve got a treat for you. Using Media Center Studio, you can swap the default animated background for something more your style!
The default Windows Media Center style has a nice look, but it’s not for everyone.
Changing the style with Media Center Studio
Changing the style of WMC can be most safely done with Media Center Studio. You never need to dig into system files and risk damaging your software. Go to http://www.adventmediacenter.com/#mcs-download, and click on “Download Media Center Studio”. This launches a web downloader. Click “Install” to set up Media Center Studio.
After a couple of seconds, Media Center Studio will start up. Now that it is installed, you need a handful of beautiful WMC themes. Switch over to the “Themes” tab on the ribbon menu.
Click the “Import Theme” button next. Don’t worry—we’ve browsed the Web and found a couple of beautiful WMC themes (pictured below). Some are in the Media Center Studio format (or “MCT”), while others are just ZIP files that include the “ehres.dll” or “.VMCThemepack” files. If the latter is the case, go to “Files of type”, and select “Modified ehres.dll” or “MediaCenterFX Themes”.
Let’s move on to some of the (rare) WMC themes we found and really liked.
Done? You’ll see an overview of all of the themes. With the case of downloaded MCT files, you’ll see a preview; if the theme designer just supplied an “ehres.dll” (or ZIP file), then you’ll just see a blank screen.
Select your favorite theme, and hit “Apply”. Now click on the little WMC icon on the top of Media Center Studio and see for yourself how your new theme looks.
Enjoy your WMC themes! It took us several hours to find these examples for you sincethey are extremely hard to find! Do you have a couple of more for us? We’ll be happy to add them to our gallery on the TuneUp Blog.
